  • Job Summary

    Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is currently searching for a Research Associate I/II to join the Biology Department. This is a regular, half-time, non-exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.

     

    We seek applicants with a proven track record studying fish reproductive ecology, specifically including histological analysis. The successful applicant will likely participate in going to sea, processing fish specimens (dissecting and data collection from them), and performing fish age and growth analyses. As such, experience with any similar activities would be beneficial and should be highlighted by the applicant. Other responsibilities could include data analysis, manuscript preparation, and assisting with project reporting.

    Essential Functions

    • Prepare fish gonad samples for histology
    • Analyze gonad tissue histologically for reproductive state and activity
    • Perform fish age and growth analyses
    • Assist with other project tasks as needed

    NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • As deemed necessary by supervisor

    Education & Experience

    Research Associate I-

    • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Marine Science, or related field
    • Experience with fish reproductive biology shown through published peer-reviewed papers

    Research Associate II-

    • Master’s degree in Biology, Marine Science, or related field
    • Experience with fish reproductive biology shown through published peer-reviewed papers

    Physical Requirements

    Physical tasks include occasional prolonged standing/walking, but mostly sedentary and use of hands for basic /fine grasping and manipulation. Physical duties are subject to change.
