    We are looking for a talented HR professional to join our team as a Sr. HR Partner – Training & Career Development. This person will have subject matter expertise and demonstrated success developing and delivering best-in-class training in the areas of supervisory and leadership soft-skills, as well as providing guidance on career and organizational development. The individual must be team-oriented, flexible, engaging, organized, proactive, an excellent problem-solver and hands-on business partner. This position will work closely with other members of the HR team to provide HR services to employees and supervisors in support of all functions within the HR department as assigned, [e.g.  foreign national advisor and technical recruitment].  This is an individual contributor role, and is a regular, full-time, exempt position eligible for benefits.

    Essential Functions

    Supervisor/ Leadership Training

    Working closely with the Sr. Director, Human Resources:

    • Create a training program for WHOI supervisors
      • Conduct needs analysis ensuring input is received from stakeholders to help shape the program
      • Develop training curriculum and content in line with adult learning principles
      • Deliver and facilitate training classes and programs both in-person and virtually
      • Incorporate “Train the Trainer” philosophy to more broadly disseminate training
    • Lead the creation of a “Supervisor Tool Kit” on the HR intranet
    • Propose solutions; design and develop instructional content; implement best-in-class learning programs; and continually solicit feedback and evaluate programs to optimize effectiveness
    • Work closely with the Assistant Director, HR Operations &Talent to ensure Diversity and Inclusion awareness is included at all opportunities
    • Initially focus on the development of basic supervisory skills to include, but not limited to:
      • Building Inclusive Work Environments and Supervising a Diverse Workforce
      • Guiding Professional Development and Career Progression
      • Performance Management: Effective Coaching and Regular Dialogue/Feedback
      • WHOI Policies, Processes and Legal Framework of Supervising
    • Create and maintain an annual learning calendar, aligning offerings with organizational needs and ensuring compliance within the programs
    • Maintain accurate attendance records of training and development activities, and develop metrics for leadership to demonstrate a return on the investment in training
    • Support the creation of a leadership program for WHOI’s future leaders
      • Research appropriate and cost-effective options for using outside vendors
      • Organize and prepare associated materials as appropriate

    Employee Career Progression/Development

    • Develop an “Employee Tool Kit” on the HR intranet initially focused on, but not limited to:
      • Career Development and Guidance Tools
      • Conflict Resolution Tools
    • Work directly with the Assistant Director, Compensation to develop and clarify career paths for individuals and families of positions to ensure consistent and equitable approaches are being taken
    • Meet with supervisors and/or employees for career pathway discussions

    General HR

    • Establish effective relationships at all levels of the organization, while gaining and maintaining credibility and trust
    • Identify trends or issues through your daily interaction with departments, bringing ideas back to the HR team to effectively developing strategies to address problem areas
    • Support other HR Department initiatives leveraging natural tendency towards teamwork
    • Serve as secondary support to other Human Resources professionals and/or perform other duties as necessary
    • Work within a budget agreed upon by HR leadership
    • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary to serve the HR Department and the Institution’s needs

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field, is required. Advanced degree is preferred, such as an MBA or MS in Human Resources Management or Organizational Development or industry certification
    • Minimum of 3 years responsibility designing and delivering supervisor training; minimum of 8 years of progressive experience as a combination general HR and training
    • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and operate independently within the SME discipline
    • Must possess exceptional presentation skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and must have proven effective written and verbal communication skills to produce and deliver effective training and guidance
    • Demonstrated experience of positive outcomes being flexible and adaptable in an ambiguous team environment
    • Proven experience having led projects successfully from inception through completion
    • Demonstrated experience facilitating employee relations and performance management issues, and providing strategic guidance on organizational and people matters
    • Experience in a Not-for-Profit Organization, Academic, Research institution is preferred
    • Excellent analytical skills to assess organizational issues, processes and performance, and function as a problem solver and change agent when appropriate
    • Must work effectively, ethically and tactfully with international constituents, government agencies, and both internal/external personnel of all levels
    • Must be highly computer literate and able to learn new technologies
    • Must possess the ability to multi-task while maintaining a sense of urgency and sense of commitment to tasks, projects, the team and the organization
    • Must exhibit professional demeanor and desire to grow and learn new things while exercising good judgment and discretion to ensure a high level of confidentiality
    • Attention to detail is critical
    • Must be a proactive individual who takes initiative and successfully contribute to help create a positive team environment
    • Experience administering a foreign national program is a plus
    • Experience with technical recruitment is a plus
    • Experience with compensation and career classification is a plus

    Physical Requirements

    Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to: occasional standing and/or walking along with being mostly and continuously sedentary.  Other occupational requirements include talking, traveling, working around others, and with others. Physical duties are subject to change.
