Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is currently searching for a Plant Supervisor to join the Facilities Department. This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Facilities, the Plant Supervisor is responsible for supervising the monitoring, operating, repairing and installing of all mechanical and related facility process systems in the Institution buildings and laboratories (Quissett campus and Woods Hole village) to ensure safe and efficient continued scientific and administrative operations and maintenance. Work to be completed in accordance with appropriate building codes and safety regulations. The successful candidate will be highly skilled in several trades enabling the application of technical knowledge to perform most assigned tasks independent of supervision
Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, ability to lift 25-50 lbs independently, 5 times per day; carry 10-25 lbs, 10 times per day. Visual abilities to include near, far, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing requirements include the ability to hear and respond to instructions, communicate effectively in loud areas (pier/dock, warehouse). Other physical tasks include frequent or prolonged standing/walking; use of hands for basic/fine grasping and manipulation, reaching above and below the shoulders, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, twisting, stooping, and climbing ladders/stools. Other occupational requirements include talking, traveling, working around others, with others, and independently. Will be exposed to excessive cold, heat or humidity, dust or other irritants, grease and oils, infectious and contagious diseases, odorous chemicals or specimens, severe weather conditions, prolonged work hours, and electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards.
