Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is currently searching for two Machinist or Sr. Machinist to join the Facilities Department to perform routine and production machining of metals and plastics. This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position, and is eligible for full benefits.
The internal working titles for this position could be either Machinist or Sr. Machinist. The final level of the position will be determined commensurate with the selected candidate’s level of education & experience.
Machinist: Performs routine and production machining of metals and plastics.
Sr. Machinist: Fabricates prototype instruments and devices of moderate complexity for research; repairs and modifies ships' equipment.

Physical requirements include lifting 25 to 50 lbs and carrying 10 to 25 lbs 20 times per day. Occupational requirements include: depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing, talking, understanding verbal instructions and safety warnings, working around others, working with others and working alone. This job involves exposure to dust or other irritants, grease and oils, and electrical/mechanical/power equipment hazards.
