Shipping Assistant

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is hiring a Shipping Assistant  to join the Facilities and Services team. Reporting to the Manager of Distribution and Services, the Shipping Assistant will assist the International and Domestic Shipping Coordinators in processing outbound shipments for successful arrival at their destination by performing a variety of administrative functions.

 This is a full-time, non-exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.

• Data entry of information for FedEx and UPS shipments.

• Completion of truckers’ bills of lading as needed.

• Filing of paperwork required to meet regulations.

• Assisting with freight claims documentation.

• Tracking of outbound shipments to monitor on-time arrivals.

• Assistance with preparing shipments for transit, as needed.

• Assist with administrative duties outside of the Shipping Dept as needed by the Distribution Manager.

• Assist with any other functions deemed necessary by the Distribution Manager.

Non-Essential Functions:

• Performs other related duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor.

Required:

High School degree or equivalent 

Valid driver's license required

Ability to obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Preferred:

Experience with UPS or FedEx Shipping

Experience with bills of lading

Basic computer skills

Physical requirements include occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, twisting needed to prepare shipments for transit. Ability to lift 25 pounds 3-4 times per day to counter height. Use of hands for for fine manipulation. Occupational requirements include hearing, talking, understanding verbal instructions and safety warnings, working around others, working with others, and working alone.  Ability to read, write and speak English.
