Job Summary

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is currently searching for an Information Systems Associate to join the Rolling Deck 2 Repository (R2R) group. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.

 

The ISA will work within Marine Operations to support sea technicians in the Academic Research Fleet (ARF) and scientists by assisting in the support, installation, operation, and documentation of R2R hardware, software, and applications. The individual will contribute and support the implementation of Best Practices in a maritime environment.

 

 There is a requirement for the individual to travel and participate in ship visits, workshops, short cruises, and conferences.

Essential Functions

 

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, with knowledge and understanding of Linux server configuration and networking
  • Conduct various tests or experiments to troubleshoot a system
  • Test the R2R Eventlog distributions prior to installation on vessels
  • Work with controlled vocabularies
  • Assist with QA/DP of CTD datasets from the ARF
  • Assist with proposal writing and annual reports

Education & Experience

  • Programming skills, including Python, Perl, shell scripting
  • An understanding of networking; experience with Cisco routers and switches preferred
  • Knowledge of Linux, Windows operating systems
  • Experience with wiki and issue tracking systems for software development projects
  • Experience with Task Management services and versioning control systems (GIT)
  • Familiarity with database operations

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in related field, or Bachelor's degree in non-related field plus two years' related experience, or Associate's degree in related field plus three years' related experience, or High School diploma or equivalent plus five years' related experience.

Physical Requirements

Physical duties for this position include but are not limited to, visual abilities to include depth perception, ability to see peripherally, ability to adjust vision to bring objects into focus, ability to distinguish basic colors. Ability to hear and respond to instructions.  Ability to work with and around others as well as alone. Other physical tasks include occasional standing/walking; manual dexterity and mobility, use of hands for basic/fine grasping/manipulation, and repetitive motion (keyboard and mouse). Physical duties are subject to change.
