Job Summary

Research Associate III – Physical oceanography and air-sea interaction

The position involves: (i) Making measurements of the upper ocean and atmosphere to assess air-sea exchange of heat and momentum, atmospheric structure, clouds, radiative effects, and ocean-atmosphere interaction, (ii) analysis of measurements, satellite, and reanalysis data sets, (iii) modeling, and (iv) dissemination of findings.  Research offers scope to explore ocean submesoscale dynamics, boundary layers, internal waves, and requires participation in fieldwork. Knowledge of physical oceanography and atmospheric dynamics is desired. The research associate will play a key role in the design and execution of research and the interpretation of scientific results.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Participation in research cruises, data analysis.

 

 

Education & Experience

Education: Ph.D.

Experience: 1-3 years postdoctoral experience

Special Requirements

Knowledge of physical oceanography, atmospheric and oceanic boundary layers, and skills in data analysis.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in the field, on ships, and at computers.

Sea Duty

Preparing and setting up instruments
Being on watch 8 hours per day
Downloading and processing data from instruments and performing quality control
Communicating and sharing data with other teams in the project
