This is a regular, full-time, exempt position and is eligible for full benefits.   Reporting to the Senior Director of Institutional Security, the Operational Security Manager (OSM) is responsible for leading, coordinating, and overseeing the fulfillment of facility security. To accomplish this, the OSM will hold the title of Facility Security Officer (FSO), and will exercise supervision over a part-time Trade Control Officer (TCO) and network of trade-control associates, as well as operational supervision over internal security personnel across the institution. The OSM is charged with designing, implementing, and making recommendations to maintain the Institution’s security posture and adherence to appropriate Federal regulations. They oversee the operation and application of facility security, insider threat, and equipment security, both directly and through engagement with associates. They are responsible for engaging with scientific and engineering researchers and research activities – including those involving sensitive and classified work – to ensure effective alignment with regulations on proscribed technologies, proscribed countries, data dissemination,and Instititutional security strategies, plans, and procedures.

This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for full benefits.   The role of this position consists of working in an electronics assembly environment primarily supporting the Applied Propagation Physics (APP) group in the Ocean Acoustics & Signals Laboratory (OASL) of the Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering (AOP&E) Department.  This role will also support the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Electrical Engineering Laboratory and the AVAST (Autonomous Vehicle and Sensor Technology) program.  The work for the OASL-APP group would be the next phase in the development of the 3-Dimensional Acoustic Telescope (3D-AT), upgrading the data collection and signal processing components as well as the power systems. The OOI Electrical Engineering Lab is responsible for maintaining a wide array of electronics, telemetry systems, wiring harnesses, and sub-sea cables.  The electrical hardware consists of distributed embedded systems, Linux single board computers, primary, and rechargeable batteries, as well as a variety of satellite based, and line of site telemetry. The AVAST program is an initiative providing subject matter expertise and specialized fabrication and testing spaces for multiple highly technical projects at WHOI.   The primary role of this position is that of an Engineering Assistant in an electronics assembly environment reporting to a Research or Senior Engineer from the individual project.  Responsibilities include; building new electro-mechanical assemblies, and wiring harnesses, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of all electronic, electrical, and computer-based equipment.  Skill level requirements vary from electronics troubleshooting, to board or component-level repair.  Candidate must be familiar with most electronics test equipment; oscilloscopes, multi-meters, and command line interfaces.   3D-AT: https://www.whoi.edu/press-room/news-release/whoi-awarded-1-million-3d-acoustic-telescope/   The internal working title for this position could be Engineering Assistant III.

The National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (NOSAMS) facility at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is seeking a Research Associate or Research Specialist for the maintenance, development, and operation of two 14C Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) systems. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position and is eligible for full benefits.   The first AMS system is based upon a 500 kV Pelletron accelerator and incorporates both a conventional graphite sputter source and a unique, gas-accepting, microwave ion source. The second AMS system is based upon a 2.5 MV Tandetron. The Tandetron system is scheduled to be retired in 2022 to be replaced by a Mini Carbon Dating System (MiCaDaS) currently under construction at Ionplus AG. The new MiCaDaS system comes with several sample-to-gas-to ion source interfaces to allow enhanced NOSAMS capabilities and unique research directions.   The level of appointment and supervision will depend on the candidate’s relevant prior experience. The candidate will work within the NOSAMS team to provide high quality 14C measurements and expertise to the ocean science community, and to enhance NOSAMS capabilities. In particular, the candidate is expected to assist in the operation and maintenance of the AMS system for sample analyses to obtain the highest quality measurements. Participation in technology development in one or more of the following topics is anticipated: accelerator physics, ion source operation, ion optics, and sample-to-source interfaces.   The internal working title for this position could be either Research Associate III or Research Specialist. The final level of the position will be determined commensurate with the selected candidate's level of education & experience.
